It’s been cold, a little snowy, and definitely feeling like winter around here this week. But even though I’m more than ready for spring, I decided that the winter weather wouldn’t get me down. Here are a few things that brightened my week:
1. Coffee.
Enough said? Look, I don’t know about you, but the time change really did a number on me. The older I get, the rougher these time changes are for me, whether we’re gaining an hour or losing an hour. I think I just need my hours to stay consistent. Mornings have been slow around here this week, and I’ve been extra-thankful for my daily cup of coffee.
2. Pi Day (3/14).
Maybe it’s because I’m a bit of a geek and appreciate the chance to talk about mathematical concepts. Or maybe it’s because I took the opportunity to bake my very first pecan pie (with my very first from-scratch crust). And it turned out not-horrible. Either way, we enjoyed our Pi(e) Day this year.
3. Celebrating another mini-milestone.
L. and I like to set aside a little time to celebrate the beginning/end of each homeschool quarter. Unfortunately, the end of the third quarter snuck up on us and we totally missed it. But we weren’t going to let our lack of vigilance stop us from having fun. We made yesterday a “light day” in homeschool and kicked it off with breakfast together at our favorite bakery. Chocolate chip pancakes for him and banana walnut pancakes for me? Yes, please!
4. Our feathered visitors.
In case I haven’t mentioned it, I’m really not a fan of cold and snowy weather. But if it’s going to happen despite my lack of permission, I can at least appreciate that the cold brings our feathered friends around as they look for something to eat. Lady cardinal was looking a bit cold as she sat in a nearby tree, all fluffed up to keep out the wind.

Have a wonderful weekend!
